About the Couple

The Groom

Tim Moreland

Tim Moreland was raised in Pittsburgh, PA, but he was born in Temple, Texas. His childhood consisted mainly of competing in sports, watching sports, and playing video games (typically sports games). He attended the University of Pittsburgh and then stayed in Pittsburgh for a couple of years to work as a Market Research Analyst. In 2012, Tim moved to Brooklyn, where he currently performs research for a nonprofit social policy organization.

The Bride

Jamie Lynn Ballard

Jamie Lynn Ballard was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas. She grew up performing in musicals, dancing, and playing sports.  She graduated from NYU and has lived in New York for seven years. Jamie Lynn currently works as the Creative Director for a theatrical production company in Manhattan. She loves Broadway shows, Italian food, and Sour Patch Kids.

How We Met

Tim and Jamie Lynn had their first date at Argo Tea in the Flatiron Building after meeting on an online dating website (they were a 99% match!). After spending almost 3 hours talking, Jamie Lynn told Tim, "You're not lame," which was a huge relief to him.

He obviously felt the same about Jamie Lynn and spent the next few weeks taking her on some pretty awesome dates (The Bronx Zoo, a movie at the Pier, the High Line, the Brooklyn Museum). From the day they met, they had an instant connection and were incredibly compatible.
Jamie Lynn fell in love with his sense of humor, his thoughtfulness, and the cute way he told stories. Tim loved Jamie Lynn's creativity, her infectious laugh, and her habit of making up songs about everything.

About 2 months into their relationship, Tim drove Jamie Lynn to the Montauk Point Lighthouse on the eastern tip of Long Island. After a day spent there on the beach, they both just knew they were meant to be together. Shortly after, they got engaged, and now Tim and Jamie Lynn can't wait to get married in May!

Wedding Party

We are so blessed to have such an amazing group of family and friends, both old and new, to stand with us on our special day!

Christopher Moreland

(Brother of the Groom)
Tim: "As an educated Man of Law (aka a lawyer), Chris has spent much time in spirited intellectual debate with me about law, politics, and Economics. As one of Chris’ best men, I was responsible for the rings on his wedding day, an unbearably stressful responsibility. I will be returning the favor and entrusting Chris with the all-important wedding rings this May."

Bestman

Matron of Honor

Jennifer Toomey

(Sister of the Bride)
JL: "Even though we are incredibly different, it's nice to know my sister will be there for me in any situation. We've always enjoyed family vacations, puzzle contests, and laughing at people when they fall in public. Always one to take in a stray animal or help someone in need, she is incredibly patient and compassionate, and I have so much fun being an aunt to her kids."

Scott Moreland

(Brother of the Groom)
Tim: "Only two years apart, Scott and I were very close to each other growing-up. People would often marvel at how we got along so well for brothers. I tried to get Scott to like sports, but we more so bonded over action figures, watching movies, and playing video games. Later in life, Scott has become a source of Biblical wisdom."

Bestman

Matron of Honor

Lisa Hernandez

(Friend of the Bride)
JL: "Lisa and I met freshman year of high school and became instant best friends. We spent our teen years watching 10 Things I Hate About You, singing in show choir, and scrapbooking. Lisa is a friend I can call day or night for just about anything. She's also the only person I know who loves sno-cones as much as me!"

Wesley Roberts

(Friend of the Groom)
Tim: "Wes and I have been friends since my family moved across the street from his the summer before fifth grade. He likes to recount the first time he saw me in the back of my mom's minivan and thought he could never be friends with such a weird-looking kid. Fortunately, Wes quickly overcame my weird looks and now spends the summer months in The Hamptons, a destination Jamie Lynn and I are more than happy to travel to."

Groomsman

Matron of Honor

Jennifer Jung

(Friend of the Bride)
JL: "Jen and I met playing kickball when we were 5 but became best friends the summer before 6th grade after bonding over our shared love of Don Pablo's cheese enchiladas. We made some epic school projects together over the years (and one not so epic catapult... #physics). Jen is someone who I know will always be there for me and I'm so grateful to have her as a friend."

Joshua Baldauf

(Friend of the Groom)
Tim: "Whether silly-stringing neighbor's homes or just causing general chaos during the night in our all-black Under Armour outfits, Josh and I were inseparable partners-in-crime as kids. We were also the most-loyal fans of the high school girls' volleyball and basketball teams. We spent many nights driving around the Pittsburgh suburbs, proving to Josh's mom that the GPS wasn't as idiot-proof as she thought, in order to see the girls play."

Groomsman

Bridesmaid

Alex Vaughn

(Friend of the Bride)
JL: "I've known Alex since 2nd grade, and the majority of my weirdest and most embarrassing stories have her involved... usually as the ringleader. My best memories with Alex typically involve us staying up all night singing harmony to our favorite church songs. I'm so happy we've stayed friends all these years."

Matthew Hess

(Friend of the Groom)
Tim: "Matt was my next-door neighbor and close friend growing up. Due to our adjoining backyards, we were the co-hosts of numerous intense backyard-football games in high school. One of our greatest accomplishments was figuring out how to play one-on-one baseball, by batting with our weak hand. Unfortunately, this plan quickly became obsolete when we both mastered hitting from the opposite side of the plate."

Groomsman

Bridesmaid

Lauren Ballard

(Sister-in-Law of the Bride)
JL: "I was so thrilled to have Lauren join our family last May when she married my brother. She has such a fun personality and I love how excited she gets about "Texas" things...The Alamo, armadillos, electric can openers :) It has been so much fun getting close to her the last two years."

Christopher Ballard

(Brother of the Bride)
JL: "My brother is the goofiest person I know. You can always count on him to be in some wild costume or making a video of himself doing a silly dance. I admire how he's never afraid to be himself, and despite his crazy antics, I’m so proud of the awesome guy he’s turned out to be."

Groomsman

Bridesmaid

Megan Moreland

(Sister-in-Law of the Groom)
Tim: "Megan officially became my first sister when she married my brother Chris nearly two years ago. However, she has truly been a part of our family since I was in Junior High, so basically most of my life. Megan brings a competitive edge to family game-nights that I respect."

Phillip Cole White

(Friend of the Bride)
JL: "Phillip cast me in a play he was directing when I was 15 and we've spent the past twelve years singing, laughing, and seeing shows together. Phillip is someone who is always there through life's ups and downs, and I can always count on him and his undeniable sense of humor to make me laugh in any situation."

Groomsman

Bridesmaid

Brenna Moreland

(Sister-in-Law of the Groom)
Tim: "Brenna joined our family a little over a year ago when she married my brother Scott. I enjoy knowing that now whenever I talk to Scott on the phone, Brenna's voice will be joining his on speakerphone. Her quirky and caring personality has been a great addition to our family."

Nicolas Coburn

(Friend of the Bride)
JL: "When Nick and I became coworkers a few years ago, we spent a lot of time together, so we bonded pretty quickly. I remember one night we were at a party together and stayed up until 4am talking. I knew then that if, after spending 40+ hours a week together we still needed to talk all night, we would never run out of things we had to tell each other."

Groomsman

Bridesmaid

Kayla Greenspan

(Friend of the Bride)
JL: "Since we see each other every day at work, Kayla was the person who most frequently had to listen to me ramble on about Tim when we first started dating (Sorry Kayla!). I appreciate her willingness to have endless discussions about if he liked me or if we thought he’d ask me out again, which then turned into endless discussions about wedding planning!"

Andrew Toomey

(Nephew of the Bride)
At age 4, this will be Andrew's third time being a ring bearer. Andrew enjoys playing with cars, playing games on the iPad, and he likes The Avengers, especially Captain America. He also loves wrestling and thinks John Cena is the greatest wrestler.

Ring Bearer

Flower Girl

Caroline Toomey

(Niece of the Bride)
Caroline is so excited to be a flower girl for Jamie Lynn and her new "Uncle Tim." She is in third grade at Snow Heights Elementary. In addition to being an experienced flower girl, Caroline enjoys reading, cheerleading, and playing with her American Girl Dolls.

The Proposal

On October 26th, 2013, Tim met Jamie Lynn outside of Argo Tea in the Flatiron Building, the location of their first date, with the ring hidden in a Ziploc bag in the pocket of his coat. After drinking some tea, they walked across town to the High Line, a public park built on a freight rail line where they had their seventh date.

Next, they went bowling at Chelsea Piers (yes, another date location). Jamie Lynn defeated Tim twice (he had bad shoes!). At this point, Tim made an excuse to go to the bathroom (in retrospect, he probably could have just said he needed to go to the bathroom), where he moved the ring from his coat pocket to his pants pocket and ditched the Ziploc bag.

He was prepared to pop the question, but they were running well ahead of Tim's schedule. It was chilly with winds of 30 mph, but this did not deter Jamie Lynn from wanting frozen yogurt (a frequent occurrence and a perfect delay!).

After eating their treat, it was time to head back over to Chelsea Piers, where Tim had hired two photographers to capture the special moment on the Hudson River Park pier (where they saw the movie Looper on their fourth date).

They sat together looking at the water (one of Jamie Lynn's favorite pastimes) until the photographer gave Tim the signal to commence with the proposal; it was time!

Tim led Jamie Lynn down the pier, where he had laid out a blanket with chocolate-covered strawberries, flowers, and six framed pencil sketches, the last of which was Tim proposing.

Shortly after reaching the blanket, Tim uttered some sappy words, dropped to one knee, and asked Jamie Lynn to marry him. She said yes!
